This National Forest in-holding is an island of just under 100 acres completely surrounded by three million acres of the Beaverhead National Forest, the largest of Montana’s National Forests. The 11,000ft exposed granite peaks of the Pioneer Mountain range loom above it. The views of this stunning mountain valley are completely private: no other buildings or lights in sight; just trees, meadows and murmuring creek. This gives the property a unique sense of escapism that, thanks to the excellent transport links (outline below) never amounts to isolation.
Fully manicured lawns and irrigated meadows surround a full complement of classic mountain log buildings. The respected, well-known architect and builder team of Candace Miller and Yellowstone Traditions, utilising old cabins and recycled wood, have created a compound consisting of an owner’s home, guesthouse, caretaker’s house, fishing/sauna cabin and a barn. The property features underground electricity and fibre-optic telephone plus a broadband satellite internet connection, essentially meaning that residents can experience the delights of this ostensibly old-fasioned development while enjoying all the comforts associated with modern luxury living.
Unbelievably (to look at the pictures) the closest town is just seven miles (10 minutes) away and commercial air services are under one hour’s travel. The grandfather of natural fishing pond design, Joe Urbani, has brought 31 years of experience to the site and contributed a beautiful trout pond that is overlooked by the cabins. Elk, deer, antelope, grouse and partridge roam the property and adjacent forests, serving as an ever-present reminder that this really is a retreat into nature. The fabled gold-medal middle section of the blue-ribbon designated Big Hole River – internationally renowned as a prime fly-fishing location – is 10 minutes from the front door.
Cherry Creek Ranch’s combination of old and new, in addition to its unusually private location, make this a property that is sure to attract a large amount of interest. There aren’t too many places in the world where nature and home comforts come together so effortlessly in the heart of somewhere as breathtaking as Beaverhead National Forest. Add to this the fact that international flights are less than an hour away, that local towns are close by (but out of sight) and that nature is right there on the doorstep, and you have a getaway location unlike any other.
