The once divided city has been transformed into a pulsating European metropolis. Berlin inspires, fascinates and surprises like no other city in Germany. The city unites history and contemporary urban living and attracts many visitors due to its unique range of cultural activities.
Victoria Park (in German Viktoriapark) is one of the nicest places in the capital, named after Queen Victoria in 1888, and has today become a green oasis in the middle of the city. Its many paths and a large waterfall, which reaches a height of 24 metres, make Victoria Park an inviting place to take a walk or just to relax.
The “Viktoria Quartier”
Kreuzberg hill, after which the district is named, is also situated in Victoria Park. In remembrance of the defeat of Napoleon, King Friedrich Wilhelm III commissioned master builder Karl Friedrich Schinkel to erect a national monument on the hill. The “Eiserne Kreuz” (iron cross) has honoured this victory since 1821. Yet it is not only the monument which characterises Kreuzberg hill, but also the historic Schultheiss Brewery. The first beer was brewed here 150 years ago and its beer garden was always well frequented when the weather was fine. Schultheiss shut down the brewery on Kreuzberg hill in 1993 and relocated to its headquarters in Berlin-Weiensee.
The foundation stone for the Victoria Quarter (Viktoria Quartier) was laid seven years later, marking the start of the revitalisation of the heritage listed industrial site. The historic buildings were partly refurbished and supplemented by new residential apartments and townhouses. This transformed the Victoria Quarter into a mixed use area. Residential living and work are combined in one location – this is typical for Berlin and has also been well received by Kreuzberg locals. The new stage of construction of the Victoria Quarter is called Brauhofgarten, it was the site of the historic beer garden and now marks the connection between the park and historic brewery. New condominiums of very high quality are being developed.
The second “MeridianSpa” in Berlin is being constructed directly adjacent in the large buildings of the former brewery. It will supply the up-and-coming district with a range of premium fitness, wellness and body care services. The residents of Brauhofgarten can pamper and enjoy themselves in the fitness and sauna areas, take a dip in the organically shaped pool, eat in the pool restaurant or relax with massages and Ayurveda treatments.
A range of options
Purchasers are generally confronted with the following decisions when looking for an apartment in Berlin: living in the centre or in greener surroundings? A rooftop terrace or own garden? A view of the industrial buildings from the late 19th century or a park apartment with contemporary architecture? Brauhofgarten doesn’t provide one or the other, it offers both.
New developments are being constructed on the foundations of the historic Schultheiss Brewery, comprising more than 100 apartments from 69 to over 200 m², which will be visible from all directions. With the whole of the quarter resembling a “red castle”. A range of housing options are on offer: house-in-house solutions, maisonettes, apartments with loggias and exceptional penthouses with rooftop terraces providing views of the city.
