Less than an hour’s drive north of Lisbon is the exclusive residential tourism resort of Quintas de Óbidos. Situated at the edge of the Óbidos Lagoon, the most desirable area on the Silver Coast, only minutes away from breathtaking sandy beaches and the treasured medieval walled town of Óbidos. Set in tranquil surroundings of rare natural beauty the resort offers not only luxury properties that all enjoy the privacy of extensive landscaped grounds, but also world class horse riding and golf at the 18 hole championship golf courses designed by Cabell B. Robinson, Donald Steel, Seve Ballesteros and Pete Dye, which are all within a 2km radius.

Quintas de Óbidos is located in Portugal’s new hot spot for holiday homes, the unspoilt Silver Coast. The reasons are not difficult to find. This is a tourist region of unique character, marked by an extraordinary natural beauty, rich in culture, wine producing, gastronomy and a haven for all sports lovers. This extensive coastline and incredible lagoon offer a never ending variety of water sports and leisure activities, including sailing, surfing, kite surfing, scuba diving and canoeing. The countryside and all year round mild climate also lends itself to some superb walking, cycling and of course horse riding through the surrounding woods, alongside the waterway and down to the beach. Easy access to Lisbon and other major cities is a huge plus, as are the prices, which are on average 30 percent lower than in the Algarve.

The master plan of this 57 ha site was designed by the world renowned WATG. Comprising only 79 villas, designed by four of the top Portuguese architects and with 16 different villa designs to choose from, each ‘quinta’ has an average 8,500sq ft (800m2) of living space, its own swimming pool and is set in a private 1.3 acre (5,200m2) landscaped garden interspersed with a series of fresh water lakes to provide natural wildlife habitats in a wonderful setting.

The exceptional onsite facilities include an equestrian centre designed by the world’s number one lady show jumper, Jessica Kürten (whose knowledge and experience will remain an active influence), an 80 suite five star hotel, commercial area, 24 hour surveillance and the focal point of Quintas de Óbidos – the Country Club, which offers a wide range of quality services and amenities, including a restaurant, coffee shop, spa, gym, two swimming pools, tennis courts, corporate facilities, a sports field and children’s play area.

The challenge inherent in developing a project of such high quality was in combining the traditional and beautiful Portuguese architecture with more contemporary construction techniques. The resulting blend of styles provides spacious and ample floor areas that emphasize the huge importance of the relationship between interior and exterior through the views, porches, terraces and leisure spaces. Despite the generous size of all the available properties, Quintas de Óbidos has one of the lowest ratios of construction to green areas in the whole of Portugal, therefore living true to their aim: “exclusive by nature.”
