When people get the bug for Barbados they certainly do it in style

Cathrin Mueller first discovered Barbados in 1996, and after love at first sight, has journeyed back to the Caribbean country some 65 times since. By 2002 she’d decided that her love affair with Barbados was permanent so it was time to start looking for a home from home she could visit several times a year.

Her criteria was exact. Cathrin knew that she wanted somewhere peaceful in a quiet residential area, but with easy access to Bridgetown, the airport and beaches. She also knew that she didn’t want to live somewhere as a faceless number in a large complex. The one bed condo she was looking for also needed to be in a gated development for security as she’d be absent a lot and she also liked the idea of generating an income from her second home.

A tall order? Perhaps. Cathrin only realised this once she started her search in earnest. Eventually she found the small, gated development of Springcourt nestling in the rolling golf course in Rockley.

Instant ‘juju’
Springcourt is a unique development of just 25 properties in a quiet residential neighbourhood near to the stunning Accra Beach. Each apartment or townhouse has been finished to a high standard with beautiful European fitted kitchens, air-conditioning and fans throughout, plus a balcony or terrace set amongst lovely landscaped gardens rich with Hummingbirds and Fireflies, and Green Monkeys playing in the nearby trees of Rendevous Ridge.

As Cathrin explains, “I discovered that they don’t really build one bed condos in Barbados so this was a real find. I’d been looking since 2002 and everything else I’d seen had no character. At Springcourt, they’re architecturally interesting and really good value compared to everything else on the island.”

Cathrin stays as often as she can at her one bed condo and rents it out as a high quality holiday let the rest of the time. When asked what made her choose Springcourt over anywhere else in Barbados, she replied; “It felt ‘homely’ right away. I love the lighting and it’s got good ‘juju’, that really good feeling some places have. It’s at the end of a cul-de-sac and so lovely and quiet with only 24 other homes and yet it’s only a short trip to lively nightlife. With the nice pool and everything so clean and well looked after it’s really easy to be there.

“I travel by myself and I feel totally safe at Springcourt. Going to your own home on vacation means it starts as soon as you get on the plane. And when I arrive it’s a nice mix of people who live there or visit sometimes. We’ve even got an owners group on Facebook now!”
