Porto Colom on Mallorca's south east coast, and about 65km from Palma, is not a large scale resort, and in fact is hardly a resort at all
Yet the lack of mass tourism, in contrast to other locations on the island, has helped maintain its natural beauty and authenticity. To the north is the tiny fishing port that has remained virtually unchanged for years, where you can find brightly coloured fishermen's cottages with traditional fishing boats moored alongside. The town is the perfect place to keep a recreational boat to explore the bays and beaches nearby, while for the land-based adventurer, the region is also home to the islands best preserved prehistoric burial grounds. The Val D'Or golf course and many sailing and watersports schools offer plenty for the more active.
Many who have visited the area have since bought homes in the area, which start at about €200,000 for a two bedroom apartment.
