Pilar de la Horadada in Alicante is growing in popularity. Overseas Living finds out why

Pilar de la Horadada is the southernmost town on the Costa Blanca, with fabulous “Blue Flag” beaches along its 4km of coastline, with fine white sand and safe, crystal clear waters to bathe in. Cliffs and rocky outcrops form small secluded sandy coves, along with a marina for yacht-owners, sailors and diving enthusiasts. There are other facilities for a host of other water-sports. In the town itself, there are incredible facilities with an enormous sports centre with football pitches, tennis courts, bowling greens, an indoor multi-sports hall, and a year-round heated swimming pool. For golfers, there is the newly opened Lo Romero Golf-course, just outside the town, which, by all accounts, is one of the best courses in the region. The town council stretches about 10km inland to include the small and growing village of Pinar de Campoverde, situated on a hilltop and surrounded by pine tree woodlands.

Perhaps the most outstanding features are the beaches, the facilities available, the choice of area in which to live, and the variety of property to choose from. Within the town council are several resorts and developments along the coast, and include Mil Palmeras, Riomar, Pueblo Latino, Victoria Playa, Torre de la Horadada and El Mojon. The Alicante – Cartagena motorway passes right through the area, giving you easy connections with the two airports at Alicante and San Javier(Murcia), 45 and 15 minutes away, and direct, fast access to all the surrounding attractions and places of interest.

Climate control
Here one enjoys incredible all-year-round weather conditions, and outdoor sports, especially golf and water-sports, are a key attraction. The sun shines for 320 days of the year, and temperatures average between 16º and 32º during the day. All manner of water sports can be practiced, and the sea temperatures vary between 14º and 25º.
On offer property-wise, is an incredibly varied, and very exciting choice of new and re-sale properties at all price-levels and for all pockets. Available now, are apartments, maisonettes, townhouses, terraced, semi-detached and detached villas. The property market in Pilar de la Horadada is constantly active, and properties are changing hands virtually all the time. Resale prices vary according to the market situation, and there is a continual development of new projects in the area. The opening of the new golf-course, close to the town, has been a great success, and properties will soon be available on the golf course itself. This, together with the new residential areas now becoming available closer to the sea, will attract more buyers to the region and guarantee future growth in the local property market.

Just at the moment, the market has slowed down to a certain extent. This means that those people who are in a hurry to sell will have to drop their prices in view of the current situation, or wait until a buyer comes along. As a result, there are some fabulous bargains to be found, both new and re-sale. Now really is a great time to buy.
