Open water

It is estimated that around four million people in the UK which, equates between six and seven percent of the total adult population, participate in boating and watersport activities
The importance of being safe on the water is paramount and with the wide variety of courses available in the UK & Overseas at RYA Recognised Training Centres people can fully enjoy this leisure pastime. The RYA, the UK’s national organisation representing the interests of everyone who goes boating for pleasure have a stance of ‘education, not legislation’ as the best means to promote safety afloat.
The Marine Leisure Association (MLA) is the Trade Association for Training, Charter and Holidays. The membership of the former National Federation of Sea Schools (NFSS), Yacht Charter Association (YCA) and Association of Fully Bonded Sailing Companies (ABSC) agreed to merge at the 2005 Southampton Boat Show, creating this new exciting Association, which was launched at the 2006 London Boat Show. The membership currently boasts more than 180 members from the cream of the industry, operating within the UK and Worldwide.
“Whether you need your hobbies broadened, your experience widened or your qualifications enhanced there is assistance waiting for you...”
Management and Corporate events afloat are becoming increasingly popular as a method of testing and extending the abilities of leadership, communication, initiative and team bonding in a new and demanding environment. Members can also offer sail, power or motor vessels to companies for Business Promotion, Corporate Entertainment & Events and Corporate Regattas.
So why choose an MLA member?
• An opportunity to try different watersport activities.
• Gain a new qualification or brush up on your existing skills.
• Get afloat if you cannot or do not wish to own your own boat.
• New areas, activities and skills to explore safely with the professionals.
So whether you’re new to sailing or an old hand, requiring training afloat, looking for a boating or activity holiday, wanting to charter a vessel for a few days or longer, interested in a career on the water or within the watersports industry or looking for a specific requirement, you could find just what you need by contacting the Marine Leisure Association.
